Traditional Karate. Proven Through Generations.

JKA Castle Hill is a proud branch of the JKA in Tokyo, preserving the traditional teachings of Shotokan Karate through disciplined training, technical excellence and personal growth.

For beginners, families and experienced practitioners, our dojo provides authentic JKA Karate training in the Hills District of Sydney.

Although many Karate organisations describe their style as "Shotokan," the Japan Karate Association (JKA) has maintained a distinct approach rooted in the technical standards established by its early instructors. Rather than viewing Shotokan as a collection of techniques, JKA emphasises it as a complete system built on precise biomechanics, efficient body movement, and practical application.

OUR AFFILIATION

The Japan Karate Association (JKA), or Nihon Karate Kyokai, is one of the oldest, largest, and most prestigious Shotokan Karate organizations in the world. Founded in Tokyo in 1949 and recognized by the Japanese government in 1957, it is considered the "Keeper of Karate's Highest Tradition" with Dojos across over 100+ countries. The JKA specialises in traditional Shotokan-style Karate-do, focusing on the development of character through training rather than just competition or sport.

JKAA (Japan Karate Association Australia)

The Japan Karate Association Australia inc. was incorporated in 2010 and is one of the leading JKA Karate organisations in Australia. We have hundreds of members participating at our branches (Dojo's) which are located at varies locations around Australia. JKA Australia teaches traditional JKA Shotokan style Karate. Standards taught are of the highest level in keeping with the technical requirements set by the JKA HQ in Japan. The purpose of JKA Australia is to develop and promote Shotokan Karate in Australia. All JKA instructors are certified by JKA HQ based in Tokyo Japan in keeping with the technical requirements set. Our goal is to maintain these standards, to grow students to their maximum potential.

At JKA Castle Hill, we are committed to promoting the high standards of JKA Karate in Australia. We strive to provide people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to learn the teachings of Karate.

We believe that practicing Karate is highly beneficial in improving one’s physical wellbeing and instilling important character traits such as respect, discipline and perseverance.

State/National Seminars & Competitions

JKA Australia hosts annual training seminars and competitions with guest instructors from JKA Headquarters. These national seminars are held at different locations every year to provide all JKA Australia members the opportunity to attend in their home states.

In addition, state-level seminars and competitions are also held during the year, to provide further training opportunities and competition experience for JKA Australia members.

Opportunities to Gain JKA Qualifications

As well as conducting regular black belt or ‘Dan’ examinations, the JKA Australia Chief Instructor & Technical Director are also licenced to carry out examinations for members to gain qualifications as instructors, competition judges and grading examiners.

JKA Australia members are provided with support to attain these qualifications through regular training sessions tailored for senior or black belt students.

Dan Grade Recognition & Transfer Program

For those wishing to join JKA Castle Hill from other Shotokan organisations,

JKA has a black belt or ‘Dan’ transfer system. When the required technical standard is demonstrated, existing Dan ranks will be recognised.

There is no official equivalent program for colour belts or ‘kyu’ grades however, it is common for students with prior experience to progress quickly through the kyu ranks.
